simple spring dinner and a strawberry cake

the quality of this photo does not do this superb yet simple supper justice. steamed asparagus with lemony bread crumbs, herbed barley with a dijon vinaigrette, radish and cucumber salad, and pan-fried wild alaskan salmon. and a glass or three of ice cold chardonnay, to wash it all down. so easy and elegant, i'm making a huge effort to make all of my meals like this one.
and tonight i also had the task of making a 1st birthday cake for a friend's daughter, but it wasn't any ordinary "smash cake", it had to be sugar free, completely organic and natural. so i came up with a banana and applesauce-based cake glazed with organic strawberry preserves and decorated with more organic strawberries. and i had the perfect strawberry cake stand to serve it on. i hope they snap a few pictures and enjoy it before her little hands destroy it and smear it all over.
